Christian Counsellor Registration

Currently the government is seeking to review the standards and training required by registered/accredited Counsellors. In time it appears that to practice as a Counsellor the requirements will include the minimum benchmark of Diploma training, as well ongoing supervision and training for counselling practice.

At Sojourners we understand that many counsellors have had relevant and progressive training, but due to either working part-time as a counselor or on a voluntary basis , haven’t attained the hours required for either ACC or BACP accreditation.

Christian Counsellors registered with Sojourners need a minimum of:

ACC Level 3 training and or Academic Diploma level training in counselling theory and practice
Proof of adequate professional indemnity insurance
Supervision - by an experienced and trained /accredited supervisor
Accreditation by a counselling body such as ACC, BACP Counselling Society, or are working towards accreditation
Be a Member of a BACP, ACC, The Counselling Society or similar
Student Christian Counsellors who wish to register require to be attending an ACC recognised academic course of a minimum of diploma level or ACC level 3, where you are called to have ongoing supervision, development and indemnity insurance.

Registration Options

One of the key purposes of Sojourners is bringing awareness of Christian Counsellors and Christian Counselling.

The registration form has been designed to get as much information as possible about you and your counselling service. This way as an individual counselor you can bring awareness of your full counselling profile and practice.

Those who Counsel as part of a Counselling Service, can give their details, as well as the name of the Counselling Service they are employed by. This aids anyone who does a search for Christian Counselling Services or Christian Counsellors in a certain area, as they could view information about all the counsellors(registered), as well as about the actual counselling service they are employed by.

Membership Registration Costs

Christian Counsellors who register for membership with Sojourners are asked to pay a donation for annual membership. The amount you pay for annual membership is left to your own discretion, as a guide, a ballpark figure for registering as an individual member or Counselling Service with Sojourners is £35. Counsellors can choose if they want to pay a different amount, as we understand that many counsel on a voluntary basis. A ballpark figure for Student Counsellors registration is £15, again you have the option if you want to pay more or less than this figure.

Registration Timing

The checking of registration details, and adding your profile to the website would take 1-2 days normally. If you require to send a copy of your indemnity insurance, qualifications, and/or membership details of any given organisation have to checked, the process can be a day or so longer.
